radiantimagesphotography.net: All About Me

When I began macro photography of plants about 10 years ago, two separate passions united.. My dad, a former professional, taught me photography and instilled a lifelong sense of wonder and joy. As a young boy, I also developed a fascination with growing plants of all forms. With their absurd, sculptural bodies, symmetries, fierce spination and tenacity, cacti and succulents became favorites. But until I built my greenhouse in 1996, my photography and my plants remained separate pursuits, wholly disparate studies of light. After I built my greenhouse, I began to specialize in macrobotanicals.

I attended Georgetown University Law School, where I met and married a classmate of mine, Robin Gillespie. Since we graduated in 1978, we have lived in Dallas, where we raised our family and practiced law.

I am presently the president of the North Texas Cactus and Succulent Society, past president of the Texas Association of Cactus and Succulent Societies, and a Vice President of the Fort Worth Cactus and Succulent Society. I was a longtime member and past president of the Ungar Photography Club and a member of the Plano Photography Club. Recently I presented programs about macro photography in Houston, San Antonio, Austin, Waco, Fort Worth, Plano, Kerrville, McKinney and Dallas. I also led programs and workshops sponsored by the Dallas Museum of Art, the Dallas Arboretum, and the International Photography Hall of Fame. My images have been published in the last two issues of the Cactus & Succulent Journal.
